Creating a Homework Friendly Home

Tuesday, September 21, 2010 Submitted by Allison

In order to help your children excel in school it is important to have a homework friendly home. It is important to set your children up for success by giving them an area to do their homework. Here are some tips to create a work space:

Gate it off:
If you have younger children/toddlers make sure your homework area is secure from them. Your child needs to be undistracted and able to concentrate on their work.

Homework organizer
: Have a place to keep their work organized and all their tools handy.

Decorate the space: Try to make some things available for you kids depending on what stage they are at. Decorate their work area with a word wall, maps, or charts. This will help them have a handy reference when they are working as well.

Organize their work
: It can be a real encouragement when their best work is saved.

Rewards Chart: Make a rewards chart to encourage them to do their best. Don't give them rewards for getting a good grade but for doing their homework without complaining, working hard, and doing their best.

What tips do you have for creating a homework friendly home? Please share them.
