Encouraging an Allergy Friendly Feast

Sunday, November 14, 2010 Submitted by Allison

Making a big meal for lots of family can be a lot of work, especially when you have a friend or relative with an allergy or special dietary need. There are so many dietary needs to consider such as; food allergies, diabetes, gluten free, and more.

One of the best ways to make your guests with dietary needs feel welcome is to make sure there are a few things they can eat. Sometimes you can make an accommodation that works for everyone such as using cornstarch instead of flour to make the gravy or leaving the nuts out of a recipe.

You might also consider making something new. There are lots of great recipes out there that have some traditional flavors but are made with other ingredients to accommodate a gluten free diet or another dietary need. Check back on Wednesday to find some great holiday recipes including some gluten free ideas.

With a little effort you can make a great feast that everyone will enjoy.  What types of allergies and dietary needs will you be working with this holiday? Do you have an awesome gluten-free holiday recipe? Please share it. We would love to hear from you.
