November is upon us and now we are going full force toward Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and more. It is my favorite time of year filled with lots of family traditions. I love to bake for Thanksgiving, make turkey soup, and have some of my favorite food. My kids look forward to going out with Daddy to pick out a tree and bring it home to surprise Mommy. Baking cookies and planning our Christmas Eve and Christmas Day feasts are some of my favorite parts of the season. Of course we all look forward to Christmas morning and the surprises that await us under the tree.
Family traditions are some of the things that unite families together. Even as adults, my brothers and I talk about our favorite family traditions from our childhood. Every year my brothers would tell me how they hid behind the tree and saw Santa come to put the presents under the tree. They even took a picture although they never were able to locate it. In our house Santa would deliver our stocking up to our rooms so it was the first thing we opened Christmas morning. Everyone in the family came to our house on Thanksgiving and we all went to my aunt's house for Christmas.
Think about the traditions you have with your children. If you don't have many then considering adding a new one. Not every tradition you try will stick. As you try different things you will see the things the kids love and ask to do again. Other things you try might not interest them as much. Be flexible and don't force something but try some new things this year and see what happens.
