1.  Host a Birthday Party for America!
-Explain to your kids that the Fourth of July is kind of like celebrating America’s birthday!  Read a book explaining the birth of our country (check out The Fourth of July Story, by Alice Dalgliesh or John, Paul, George & Ben, by Lane Smith .)
-Decorate some picnic tables with red, white and blue tablecloths.  Have kids make paper cut-outs of stars to hang from the porch and don't forget to hang up that Grand Ole’ Flag!
- Work together to make America a birthday cake by decorating a sheet cake like a flag (use white icing and blueberries and strawberries to make stars and stripes.)
-Throw some hotdogs on the grill, make a big pitcher of lemonade, and bring on the party!

2.  Attend a local Parade!
If you don’t know where one is, ask a neighbor or make a call to your local township.  Kids always enjoy dressing up for festivities, so check out some fun ideas for what to wear HERE

3.  Go see the Fireworks!
Fireworks are a great way to make memories with your family.  We don’t recommend doing them yourself as they can be dangerous, especially with children underfoot.  But you can easily find a local display on an internet search engine. Bring some snacks and lay together on an old blanket in the grass as you watch the display and talk about which types are your favorites!

4.  Work together on some fourth of July Crafts!
Learn how to make a pinwheel HERE
Or try a patriotic tin can windsock HERE
Or, using red and blue paint, create your own fireworks display HERE

5.  Bon Fire!
Fire up the fun in your back yard with a bon fire, s’mores, and sparklers.  Sing some patriotic songs as you make memories that will last a lifetime.  Click HERE for a listing of patriotic songs (this site has even included the tune and lyrics in case you’ve forgotten them over the years!)

God Bless America!
