The beginning of May, I started the quest of finding a birthday theme for my 4 year-old- son. I really enjoy finding unique items for parties and just have so much fun making the party just right. My son is so into with outdoor activities and is especially mesmerized by construction equipment, so that was the theme I decided upon for the party extravaganza.
The first thing I looked for were some cute invitations. I have my favorite place to do this so I went right there to see if they had an invite that matched my theme. I was in luck! Gina at A Touch of Whimsy had exactly what I was searching for.

Gina also had these adorable round thank you stickers that were made to match my invites. I just stuck them on cardstock and then tied them onto the favor buckets. They are a wonderful way to continue the theme of your choosing.

I LOVE all things that are crafty and I am constantly amazed at what people can do with their talents. The next place I usually look is on etsy, big cartel, artfire, or some other indie craft market. I like the idea of supporting local people (I tend to buy USA or Canadian crafted materials) and since I am also a jewelry crafter, I would hope that people will return the favor or at least karma will help me out!
I found most of the favor items from various etsy shops. Little House Frau created a perfect themed appliqué shirt for the party. I know that my son will wear this shirt all summer long.

Next, I went on the hunt for some favors for the little party guests. This party is mostly family and I have 8 children of various ages who will need some favors, so I don’t really mind spending a little bit on these items. I came across a little construction themed travel tic tac toe game at My Happy Hobbies and I thought that would be fun for the older child guests.

And I also found some really perfect construction vehicle crayons at Lil Doodlers.

I found some construction coloring books on Amazon and then found buckets in the dollar section at Target. And Voila…favors are finished.

I don’t go too crazy with the decorations or activities. I found a fun birthday banner at Pink Elephants and Blue Rhinos shoppe. I got a balloon machine at Michael’s to put up balloons along my back fence. I also got some fresh sand for the sandbox….hey what construction party wouldn’t be complete without some digging in the sand?? Finally I got a little front-end loader front-end loader pop up play tent for the kids to play with. I found this through Amazon also.

I also like to bake and have started to dabble in cake decorating with an artist friend. I used a home made yellow cake recipe and made some real whipped cream icing. My friend helped me make some little fondant dump trucks to put on top of the cupcakes and they turned out better than I could have imagined.

The day was special and memories were created. Family and friends were cherished and had a great time. I also hope that I’ve inspired you to hunt out some great finds for your next birthday. It’s fun and it’s easy and people are always amazed at the creativity! Happy hunting!

Love the "goodie buckets"
Carrie,
You picked an adorable theme! And I LOVE the idea of giving away buckets filled with goodies to all your little guy's friends!
